Why we start with the margins
Before choosing a typeface we fix the page: trim size, margins and the text block. A generous inner margin keeps words out of the binding; an outer margin wide enough for a thumb means the reader can hold the book without covering the text. Everything else follows from those four numbers.
Three rounds of proofs is usually enough
The first round is for the author, the second for the editor and the indexer, the third for us. A fourth round usually means something was decided too late, and we try to find out what, so it does not happen on the next book.
